Day 1 - Santo Domingo ⇒ Barahona

In the morning, transfer from the hotel to the bus station of Caribe Tours. The driver will take care of your bus tickets. (Departures 4x daily)

Travel time is about 3:15 hours.

Drive along the coastal road out of town to San Cristóbal. The villages are surrounded by mango and breadfruit trees, coconut palms and bananas. After Bani, the road climbs uphill through increasingly barren land. Columnar cacti and yellow-flowered agaves grow here. In Hatillo you will see the "Bahia de Ocoa". The road leads into the mountains, through a dry and stony land dotted with cacti and agaves. Then a wide view opens on the big river Rio Yaque del Sur, with palm trees in the river valley. It is the only river oasis in this dry area. You will reach the provincial capital, Barahona, located on the "Bahia de Neiba". This is your base for the next three days. This is where the famous pirate Cofresí is said to have had his lair.

You will be picked up at the bus station in Barahona and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2-3 - Eco-tours or eco-treks of your choice

Laguna Oviedo – A delight for wild bird lovers. Flocks of flamingos, herons, ducks and swans are just a small selection of the more than sixty species of water birds that live there.
Bahía de las Aguilas – Enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with its fine white sand and crystal clear waters.
Lago Enriquillo – Discover the largest lake in the Caribbean, home to the American crocodile, iguanas and a variety of birds.
Larimar Mine – Unique in the world! Learn about the blue gemstone (blue pectolite), from mining to manufacturing.
Cachote – An impressive biosphere reserve with its cloud forest at about 1,000 meters above sea level.
Cacao Trail – Discover the cacao plantations with their exotic fruits: Mangos, coconuts, avocados, pineapples and many more...
Garden Eden – Walk in the heart of the fruit and vegetable garden and discover the villages of the Sierra de Bahoruco region.

Day 4 - Barahona ⇒ Santo Domingo

After breakfast (included) transfer to Caribe Tours bus station (departures 4x daily). The driver will take care of your bus tickets. Drive from Barahona back to Santo Domingo.
